Duties
The hiring is based on an Evans-Allen project recently funded by the USDA NIFA, titled “EOT-SERS Portable Detector and High-Throughput Metabolomics Methods for Intelligent Sensing of Foodborne Pathogens”. The student who has been employed has the priority to be considered for continued employment in the new fiscal year of 2021-2022. The hired undergraduate student will learn and conduct laboratory tasks such as sensor design and fabrication, sample pretreatment and preparation, UHPLC-MS/MS maintenance and operation, data analysis, report/manuscript drafting. The undergraduate student will be responsible for taking detailed lab notes including experimental protocols & procedures, encountered issues and questions. Other duties include but are not limited to: microbial culture and maintenance, teamwork with collaborating groups, and maintaining a clean work environment.
Required Skills
This position will report to Dr. Qingbo (Roger) Yang’s Advanced Bioanalytical Lab located at the small animal research facility (SARF) and the newly established Dickinson Research Center (DRC). Applicants are expected to have experience or the ability to work in an analytical chemistry lab environment, and steady working efforts of 20 hours per week are required. This position requires excellent observational, record-keeping, organizational, and communicating skills in addition to basic computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Word & Excel). The job candidate should also be able to work well with others or independently with preference given to those possessing a positive attitude.
